This year, we have introduced P4C in our classrooms.

What is P4C?

Philosophy for Children (p4c) is a proven pedagogy that can help build communities, develop critical and creative thinking, oracy and well-being. It can change classrooms, pupils and teachers (and beyond schools, communities and families).

It encourages pupils, staff and the community to think critically, caringly, creatively, and collaboratively (The 4C's). Each subject contains contested concepts, questions, values, and perspectives, and the practices of P4C can be used to explore them all. This exploration deepens subject knowledge and strengthens connections between subjects and the wider world. The skills developed by P4C – including questioning, reasoning, and reflecting – are useful to learners throughout their education, in turn helping to develop the 5 strands of the Thinking Skills and Personal Capabilities aspect of the NI curriculum.
